Understand Import Taxes and Duties Before You Order
International buyers are responsible for customs duties, taxes, and import fees according to their local laws. Tooltos ensures smooth shipping and provides guidance where possible. Our product prices do not include duties or VAT.
What Is Customs Duty?
Customs Duty is a tariff or tax imposed on goods when transported across international borders. Its purpose is to protect each country's economy, residents, and environment by controlling the flow of goods into and out of the country.
The Customs Duty Rate is a percentage of the total purchased value of the item, determined by factors including where the item was acquired, where it was made, and what it is made of.
Who Pays Customs & Duties?
All import taxes, duties, and fees are the responsibility of the buyer. Tooltos ships your order but cannot control local customs policies or fees charged by your country's customs authority.
If you are charged VAT or customs duty, you will need to pay it to your local customs office or the delivery company handling clearance — not to Tooltos.
Does Your Price Include Duties or VAT?
No. Our product prices include only the cost of goods and shipping. No duties or VAT are included. The final amount of any customs fees depends entirely on your country's current customs policy.
How Much Customs Duty Will I Pay?
Customs policies differ from country to country and can change over time. We are unable to predict the exact amount you may be charged. As a general reference from customer feedback:
- European countries — duty-free threshold is approximately €22 for personal imports (subject to change)
- United States — duty-free threshold is approximately $800 for personal imports (subject to change)
We recommend checking your local customs authority's official website for the most current information.
How Do I Pay Customs Duty?
For door-to-door shipping services, the shipping carrier will typically handle customs clearance on your behalf. They will contact you to inform you of any duties owed before delivering your package. You will need to pay the customs duty at that time in order to receive your shipment.
Can Customs Duty Be Reduced?
We can declare a lower goods value on the customs invoice to help reduce your duty liability, within legal limits. If you would like us to declare a specific value, please note your request during checkout or email us at sales@tooltos.com within 24 hours before your order is shipped.
Please note: customs duty is ultimately outside our control, especially for express carriers such as DHL, UPS, FedEx, and TNT, which typically apply stricter customs procedures.
