How to Choose a Vacuum Investing and Casting Machine for a Small Jewelry Studio

A vacuum system can improve lost-wax casting preparation, but it is not a complete casting studio in one box. Map the workflow first: wax model, investment, degassing, burnout, melting, vacuum-assisted casting and finishing.

This guide uses the Tooltos 2L Jewelry Vacuum Investing and Casting Machine as a reference point.

At a Glance

  • 2L chamber with integrated 3 CFM oil-sealed pump and pressure gauge
  • Accepts flasks up to 4 × 7 in; includes a 3.5 × 4 in perforated stainless-steel flask
  • 580 × 310 × 582 mm (approx. 22.8 × 12.2 × 22.9 in), 32 kg (approx. 70.5 lb)
  • Offered in 110V and 220V versions

Start With the Job the Machine Actually Does

A vacuum investing and casting machine removes trapped air from investment material and flasks, then supports vacuum-assisted casting with compatible flasks. It does not melt metal or burn out wax.

Important: Plan for a separate furnace and melting solution. This machine is not a melting furnace or a burnout kiln.

Choose Flask Size Before Pump Capacity

The flask is the physical limit behind most small-studio decisions. The 2L Tooltos machine accepts flasks up to 4 × 7 inches and includes a 3.5 × 4 inch perforated stainless-steel flask. It suits rings, pendants and small custom batches.

Measure the flasks you actually use, including clearance for gaskets and tongs. Do not select a machine from a pump number alone.

Match Capacity to Your Casting Rhythm

For custom pieces or small repeat runs, a compact 2L system is often the sensible starting point. Its integrated 3 CFM pump avoids a separate external-pump purchase. Move to 4L when your work needs more capacity; consider 6L for frequent casting, larger flask requirements, classes or small production batches.

Check the Whole Bench Footprint

The 2L Tooltos unit measures 580 × 310 × 582 mm (approx. 22.8 × 12.2 × 22.9 in) and weighs 32 kg (approx. 70.5 lb). Give it a stable, level position with room to lift the acrylic hood and reach controls. Keep a clear path between investing, burnout and pouring areas.

Tip: Confirm your electrical supply before ordering. This model is offered in 110V and 220V versions; select the voltage that matches the workshop supply.

Understand the Vacuum System and Maintenance

The built-in 2L pump is rated at 3 CFM and has a pressure gauge. It is oil-sealed, not oil-free: vacuum oil is required before first use and is not included. Follow the oil-level indicator and supplied maintenance instructions.

Important: Running an oil-sealed pump without oil can cause damage.

Build a Compatible Casting Workflow

The sequence is: prepare wax work, mix and invest, vacuum-degas, complete burnout in a separate furnace, melt metal in compatible equipment, then perform vacuum-assisted casting with suitable flasks. Plan flask sizes, investment tools, furnace, melting equipment, tongs, PPE, ventilation and a heat-resistant area together.

A Quick Decision Check

Choose a compact 2L vacuum investing and casting system if you make small jewelry batches, use flasks within its 4 × 7 inch limit and want an integrated pump. Step up to 4L or 6L only when larger capacity, frequent cycles or teaching and production demands make the extra footprint worthwhile.

The Tooltos 2L Jewelry Vacuum Investing and Casting Machine is a focused tool for vacuum investing and vacuum-assisted casting preparation. It is not a melting furnace, a burnout kiln or an oil-free pump. Choosing with those boundaries in mind produces a safer, more complete small-studio setup.
